Lavender Essential Oils: A Love Affair
Essential oils have fascinating and powerful benefits to our mental, emotional, and physical bodies. We can use essential oils to influence and shift our emotional states of being, heal physical wounds, and create a supportive physical environment in which we feel good.
ESSENTIAL OILS, POWERFUL AND FASCINATING
Using essential oils to promote health and healing and for emotional health has been documented for centuries!
In fact, 1500 B.C. is the date of the first written documentation of the uses of essential oils, and humans were only just starting to communicate in the written word right around that time, and the knowledge is said to have dated even earlier.
Despite this fact, for me, it’s only the beginning of my passionate love affair and appreciation of them.
There are many, and their benefits and contributions are evident and endless, creating a fascinating trail of information of the varied and powerful uses of essential oils.
This excites the heck out of me!
I LOVE ME A GOOD SCENT
I’ve used some essential oils here and there in the past.
I’ve made some bug spray, flea collars, bath bombs, and laundry soap.
And I like to add them to my mop water when I clean my floors.
When I was younger, I was kinda obsessed with nicely scented…anything…candles, lip balm, shower gel, body sprays, perfumes, clean laundry, other people’s hair!
And to this day, I love me something that smells nice.
And now I know why!
SCENTS INFLUENCE HOW WE FEEL
Just like music playing at a party, scents strongly influence how we feel.
And like when we connect with music, when we connect with aromas, especially ones from Nature, we may feel ourselves shift and even lift vibrations, feeling even better.
LAVENDER IS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Today I want to focus a light on Lavender Essential Oil.
Lavender essential oil is said to be the most used essential oil globally, and it’s definitely the one I’ve used the most.
Lavender is most well known because of its calming effects on the body and mind.
But Lavender essential oil has many other well-known benefits too!
It can be used aromatically, topically, and internally.
(Caveat: Not all essential oil brands are created equal, and not all can or should be ingested.)
Lavender oil is so versatile that some herbalists believe, “when in doubt, use lavender”.
Lavender essential oils prominent properties are impressive, aren’t they?
Cytophylactic – “stops disintegration of cell membranes, as seen in viral infections”
EVIDENCE CLEARLY SHOWS THE SAFE & EFFECTIVE BENEFITS OF LAVENDER
SLEEP ISSUES, STRESS & ANXIETY,TEETH GRINDING, EMOTIONAL BALANCE
Conclusion: According to the study results, it can be concluded that the lavender fragrance had a beneficial effect on insomnia and depression in women college students. Repeated studies are needed to confirm effective proportions of lavender oil and carrier oil for insomnia and depression.
Lavender increased the percentage of deep or slow-wave sleep (SWS) in men and women. All subjects reported higher vigour the morning after lavender exposure, corroborating the restorative SWS increase.
PAINS AND STRAINS, ARTHRITIS, WOUND CARE
The result of this study clearly shows that aromatherapy has major effects on decreasing pain and depression levels. Based on our experiment’s findings, we suggest that aromatherapy can be a useful nursing intervention for arthritis patients.
ALLERGIES AND HAY FEVER, ASTHMA
Lvn inhibits allergic inflammation and mucous cell hyperplasia with suppression of T-helper-2 cell cytokines and Muc5b expression in a murine model of asthma. Consequently, Lvn may be useful as an alternative medicine for bronchial asthma.
MIGRAINES AND HEADACHES
The present study suggests that inhalation of lavender essential oil may be an effective and safe treatment modality in acute management of migraine headaches.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Aromatherapy (LAVENDER, LEMON, YLANG YLANG is effective in lowering systolic blood pressure and sympathetic nerve system activity.

“Lavender is alleged to have a variety of therapeutic and curative properties, ranging from inducing relaxation to treating parasitic infections, burns, insect bites, and spasm. There is growing evidence suggesting that lavender oil may be an effective medicament in the treatment of several neurological disorders. Several animal and human investigarions suggest anxiolytic, mood stabilizer, sedative, analgesic, and anticonvulsive and neuroprotective properties for lavender.”
That last part about Lavender oil being neuro-PROTECTIVE should serve us as a reminder that not only can we use the healing properties of essential oil when we are afflicted with malady or discomfort, but that we can also use them as way to strengthen our body’s defense mechanisms.
